Microsoft is rapidly moving from AI that answers questions to AI that can understand context, follow instructions and perform meaningful work. In this evolution, Skills are becoming an important building block for creating reusable AI capabilities. In this session, we’ll explore the evolution of SharePoint Skills - from reusable SKILL.md files and community-driven repositories, through the Awesome SharePoint Skills Gallery and Skills Factory, to Microsoft’s native Site Skills experience. We’ll look beyond simply creating Skills and explore the real challenges of building a Skills ecosystem at scale: discovery, reuse, governance, lifecycle management, observability and adoption. Through practical examples and architectural perspectives, we’ll connect SharePoint, Copilot, Agents and Skills, and explore what this means for developers, IT teams and organizations building their AI strategy on Microsoft 365. The goal is not just to show how to create a Skill, but to answer a bigger question: How do we build a healthy, scalable Skills ecosystem for enterprise AI?
It all started in 1998 with a 56 Kbps modem and Netscape 6.0. Since then, I’ve transformed a deep curiosity about the web into a lifelong career rooted in technology, creativity, and community. I’m a Software Architect and dedicated Mentor, with a diverse skill set spanning DevOps, automation, microservices, cloud-native solutions, and modern front-end development. I lead platform strategy and architecture, driving the design and delivery of scalable, multi-tenant SaaS solutions for Microsoft 365. I’m passionate about developer experience, clean architecture, and Agile methodologies, and I constantly seek ways to eliminate repetitive work and elevate team productivity through automation and smart tooling.
