Session Abstract
Future Railway Mobile Communication System (FRMCS) is coming and set to replace existing tech (GSMR, TETRA, VHF). Based on experience of implementing "first of it's kind" project - actual world first commercial national tender deploying this tech in real life - here comes the solution architect and engineering lead of the product to tell you about practical challenges in doing "Mission Critical" in railways. FRMCS is coming to us from standardization bodies like UIC, ETSI, 3GPP, TCCA, GCF and there's a team of several tens of people, mainly sitting in Osijek, Croatia - that's doing this for over 7yrs. Talk is going to be split in: - quiz (evaluation of audience level to adapt talk terminology to fit all) - short description FRMCS/MCX terminology - description how railways operate now - infra, security, continuous operations - example day in a life of "dispatcher" (controller), cab-radio operator (train driver), power switch controller, maintenance worker, shunter, and so on - intro to functional and non-functional aspects of such systems - real-world examples of deployed architectures - (if time permits - live-demo) - live demo of specialized HW for the domain Take-aways: - insights into internals of railway operations and technology - SW and HW examples incl. architecture - getting to see HW you can't normally buy (no COTS HW) - detail level variable according to audience capacity and interest
Note to event organizers
The talk can be also completely chalk'n'talk - short demo w/ specialzied HW can take place even in the grass-field (just to have public LTE available to some degree, although that can be mitigated but I don't want to need to bring a generator w/ me). Otherwise, can be a standard pptx based presentation (in that case beamer needed, but I know you have it), mic optional - depending on size of venue (room).

Currently is also main contact for student mentoring and practices for our Atos Convergence Creators Osijek location. Lately introducing new and innovative technologies in existing products and solutions for product pipelines, creating Mission Critical Service products. Holds university talks and conference appearances when time permits. Also part of Osijek Software City as a private member.
