SharePoint has a powerful capability in that it maintains a version history for every file in a Document Library, by default. The default setting is to maintain up to 500 version, depending on the level of activity for the file. But with that comes a cost: separate copies are kept for each version, using up SharePoint's available storage, which is calculated based on your number of registered users. In 2025, Microsoft introduced Automatic Versioning, which uses an algorithm to determine when to trim out older versions over time. Come to this session to learn the mechanics of how all this works, discuss scenarios which can complicate things and see PnP.PowerShell scripts you can use to improve the application of the changes, should you choose to do it.
