From Data to Documents with AI: Rethinking Reporting in Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations

Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations relies on Electronic Reporting (ER) and SSRS to produce business documents like invoices, statements, confirmations. While these tools are powerful, they often require predefined data models and complex setup. This session introduces an AI-driven approach where natural-language prompts instantly fetch F&O data and generate Word, Excel, or PDF outputs without heavy configurations. We’ll demonstrate the building blocks of AI-powered document generation: • Create Word, Excel, or PDF documents from user input • Generate documents from templates for compliance • Write prompts to update existing documents dynamically • Automate document creation with triggers • Distribute documents automatically to SharePoint, email, or any location Technology stack: Copilot Studio, MCP Server, Power Platform connectors This leads to a key question for the Dynamics community: Do we still need ER and SSRS for every reporting and document scenario or can AI become a complementary (or even primary) way of delivering business documents?
